Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken Movie Full Details: Release date, Cast, Crew, Story and Trailer: A lovely and awkward high school senior named Ruby Gillman learns that she is a direct descendant of the fierce kraken queens. The kraken have taken an oath to defend the world’s oceans against the vain, power-hungry mermaids. Ruby, who is destined to inherit the throne from her imposing grandmother, must use her newfound abilities to protect the people she cares about.

Ruby Gillman, age 15, and her family are krakens that have settled in the California coastal town of Oceanside in an effort to blend in with the local human population. As the high school prom will take place on a ship out at sea, Agatha’s mother has forbidden her to go. In order to ask out her crush Connor, Ruby initially declines to go, but is eventually persuaded to by her pals Margot, Trevin, and Bliss. Accidentally falling into the water prevents her from asking Connor her question. Luckily, Ruby is there to save him. Instead, he thinks the new girl at school, Chelsea Van Der Zee, who is trying to befriend Ruby, rescued him after Ruby dumped him on the boat ramp.

After discovering bioluminescent suction cups on her fingers, Ruby runs for cover in the library, where she accidentally touches salt water and undergoes a horrific transformation. She is frightened by the librarian and temporarily stops growing in size, but in the process she accidentally destroys the library. Ruby transforms into a kraken and races to the lighthouse as Chelsea watches in awe. Agatha learns the truth and pursues her, eventually running into her brother Brill again. When Ruby becomes upset, Agatha helps her relax and she returns to her usual size. Ruby’s father Arthur and younger brother Sam learn of her metamorphosis upon their return home. Agatha lets Ruby know that she, too, can transform into a massive kraken.

Ruby, frustrated that Agatha kept her in the dark about her abilities, sneaks off with Brill’s support to visit her Grandmamah, the Warrior Queen of the Seven Seas. Ruby is a princess and the heir apparent, according to Grandmamah. They found a formidable trident named The Trident of Oceanus to slay some of the krakens, and she tells Ruby that mermaids are actually the most terrible creatures in the waters. Agatha took Ruby and ran away to the surface to raise her when her mother locked them for all time and hid the trident. Despite turning down the crown, Ruby is glad she got to see her grandma. Gordon Lighthouse, an elderly sailor and tour guide in Oceanside, almost kills her when he traps her on her way home. Chelsea, however, reveals that she is a mermaid, rescues Ruby, and assists her in evading capture.

Ruby tries to get back to her regular life the next day, but videos of her in kraken form go viral. Jessica skips class with Chelsea, who tells her that Queen Nerissa, the evil mermaid, died while reclaiming the Trident. Ruby’s grandma wants her to obtain it so that the krakens and mermaids can work together, so Ruby works out with her to gain the necessary strength.

Ruby goes to inform her mom about Chelsea on prom night. Agatha is so upset that Ruby has a mermaid companion that she has forbidden her to visit her grandma. Ruby escapes to retrieve Chelsea’s trident. When Chelsea finally succeeds in retrieving the Trident, she will admit that she is really Nerissa and that she broke out of her cell to find a kraken she could manipulate into going and retrieving the weapon for her. When her monster bulk increases, she buries Ruby alive under rubble and then proceeds to obliterate the town. When Agatha and Grandmamah struggle to fight her off, Brill discovers an imprisoned Ruby, who is hurt and upset. She heads up to the surface to stop Nerissa after he gives her some words of encouragement. Ruby steps up to fight Nerissa after watching her dominate Agatha and Grandmamah. Ruby impresses Connor by coming to the aid of her prom boat companions and rescuing them from the conflict.

As Nerissa finally gets the upper hand, Ruby disarms her because she knows the trident can be broken with enough force. Together, the three of them use their laser eyes to destroy it, destroying Nerissa and restoring her to normal size, at which point Gordon is able to capture her. After making up with her pals, Ruby asks Connor to the prom, and he agrees. After a while, Ruby and Connor become a couple, and she resumes her role as Oceanside’s defender.
